538 x 423mm (21¼ x13 ¾ in) Uncoloured. Very clear impression in good condition. Multiple folds (as bound). Two small repairs to folds. North and Central Philippines, with rhumb lines and the route of the Manila Galleon which Anson intercepted and captured. The booty included 32 wagon loads of silver. $450.00

By Tobias Meyer, from Atlas by Homann’s Heirs. Dated 1748 in the plate Showing the Philippines, Borneo and the rest of Eastern Indonesia and the Marianas. Also Taiwan and part of China, as well as the northern coast of Arnhem Land (Australia). (The second of two maps which together cover the whole of the East Indies.)

505 x 432 mm (20 x 17 in) Original outline and body colour. Good condition, with some surface dirt mainly in the margins and 3 faint spots near bottom right hand border. $350.00

By Guillaume de L’Isle, Amsterdam, Covens & Mortier. c1730s or 40s Iraq, Persia, Armenia, Caucasus, Afghanistan and parts of Central Asia. De L’Isle has been called “the first scientific cartographer” because of the meticulous care he took to assemble all the latest geographical information. His maps represented a major advance in both accuracy and detail. While sparsely decorated, they stand out for their elegance.

480 x 613 mm (18 ¾ x 24 in) Original outline colour. Fine impression in very good condition, lower margin just trimmed (as bound); 120 mm (4 3/4in) repair to centerfold. $400.00
